Ok i know im going on abit with that post title but thats what ive been thinking is needed to get 1radio where it should be. I think what every presenter should do is play at least one promo of another DJ on there shows. And maybe post the next DJ'S show on twitter and facebook to get word around. If you have a promo for your show then make sure you post it in the jingle exchange if you dont have a jingle exchange then maybe we could setup a drop box for 1radio so we can share them. Im defo willing to play a promo of any of your shows so just send me them to djwestsounds2011@yahoo.co.uk or i can get it off the jingle exchange. Just an idea as it seems that you dont always hear dj promos that much on current shows. Plus we need to let first time listeners what we offer here on 1Radio.org.

Thanks Ian

ps. please post your comments !!!

Most Promos on the exchange are out of date and many shows have either been scrapped or, like mine, changed the time. With the exception of Wills shows and my Monday Music & Requests I don't know any others that broadcast regularly, even the Sunday Chart show broadcasts the wrong time and really needs updating. I don't mind playing promos and I often tweet other DJ's shows when I get chance to.

OK so its agreed that we need to look at some of the ways in which we promote the station. I don't mind changing the time of the chart if you think its at the wrong time but we should all do new promos especially those that have auto bookings as there slot will be the same time every week. We need an advertising person someone who posts all the shows on Facebook etc . But my main point is that we all need to get behind each other and promote each other as much as we can and i know some of us havnt got the time but a 2min post is all it takes.

Just a thought thats all !!

agreed - I will create a few promos over the next week and have my jingles updated - I will also remove all my out of date ones

That great gaz ...I just think that we have been given an oppertunity to keep the one going as per tims decision.!! So come on guys post them fresh new promos and lets get posting them shows !!! Also what we need to do is and i dont mind doing it is post the current show scheduale ...i hear you say ahhh but it changes through out the day but we can always post a new one if that happens. What do you think?

Time to stop talking about promoting and supporting, and do it! Here's what I believe helps :

Identity - The audience know what you and your show are all about.
Consistency and continuity - Autobook a slot and be there. If not, get someone to cover YOUR show
Reliability - The audience know the quality you'll produce every week
Interaction - Get the audience involved as often as possible, preferably before the show so they're more likely to listen.
Research - Know your music and ideally your audience too
Promote 1Radio exclusively - If we appreciate this place as much as people say, let's promote 1R only
Activity - Keep yourself scarce, let the audience want more

Not a finished list, just some principles I try to adhere to.

A couple of thoughts from me:

Definitely agree with consistency and continuity - it helps your listener count when they know when your on at the same time every week.

We should also use social networks to our advantage - whether it's the facebook page, twitter account, or even using the 1Radio YouTube account.

And let's remember that 1Radio is a worldwide station with listeners all over the globe, so why not put repeats out overnight to avoid people who may tune in for the first time hearing nothing or seeing a giant robot in the shout box saying no one's here.

It's all fair enough promoting 1radio and getting more listeners but I find it quite dishearting that there are still a lot of empty slots.. Today, no-one on until 11pm tonight??? Whist, it is appreciated that it is summer season, school holidays etc i feel that this is quite poor. Everyone was disapointed when Tim made his decision to cancel 1radio and then delighted when he decided not too. Give Tim one good reason why he should continue when there are still some emtpy slots. If everyone still wants 1radio continue, we have to start having a reasonably busy schedule or it will be gone and this time.... Only ourselves to blame

You're right, Ash, no show to 11pm on a Saturday is a sin As usual on a Saturday, Adam, JP and I had good numbers, energetic shoutboxes and people wanting to listen. When I logged off at Midday, 25 people were listening to me. Why on earth nobody had the foresight, effort or initiative to follow that up i do not know!!

We need to do better people. Please don't waste this opportunity to broadcast here!

I love how everyone talks about promoting the site, getting more listeners and then we have massive gaps in the schedule. Where's the incentive to promote the site if all they are going to find is dead air or AutoDJ?
@Will, most of your listeners come for that Genre, I doubt many, if any would stick around for a rock show or top 40 music. I had another sleepless night and didn't get up until after 1:30pm otherwise I may have taken the following two hours.

I checked the schedule for this upcoming week

one week is 168 hours of shows

Lets take away midnight till 8am (56 Hrs)

This leaves us 112 hours which we can realistically expect to hear someone presenting
So lets take away what has been booked (57 hrs)
which leaves us with 55 hours of autoDJ....

61.6% of space to be filled

This is a poor showing my friends, we need to up our game if we are to keep 1radio going

51 DJ's still registered to the station, 19 of those have at least 1 hour booked...leaving 32, which sorry but cant see all 32 being on holiday etc

Come on guys get your finger out your backsides

Yeah, you're right, Ceejay, most of the listeners were there to listen to that genre, however Ylle, Asma, Andrew, Jamie, Stewart.......and probably others that love 1Radio and are here because of Club 80s, might have just stuck around if somebody had improvised and played 80s or dance of sorts. Like I said, showed initiative.

Many of our "regular" presenters have been absent lately. I have a sneaking suspicion that some folks felt spooked by the announcement of 1Radio's closure and have set about to find safer pastures. But I could be wrong. In any case, I agree that some new blood is needed. Let's all reach out to our dedicated listener base to see if any familiar faces would like to try their hand at hosting shows. Apart from that, let's think about some other sources for recruiting. Sometimes I really wish that 1Radio conducted exit interviews so that we might stand to gain from our losses. This knowledge might reveal patterns that would help us to evolve our practices and reduce turnover.
