Frequently asked questions
What is 1Radio?
1Radio is a fresh, new web-based radio station, founded in the UK and featuring a broad variety of formats, musical genres and diverse, international talent.
Who can broadcast on 1Radio?
Anyone who is serious about radio, has ideas for compelling shows and has the necessary tools to produce content, get online and broadcast it to your audience.
What do I need to broadcast?
An account, a stack of music and suitable software such as Winamp, VirtualDJ or SAM Broadcaster. 1Radio can offer a significant discount on SAM Broadcaster as we have negotiated DJ seat licences with Spacial Audio, the makers of this software.
How do I get to broadcast?
Register for a free account, get some show credits and choose your preferrred slot. Credits can be won, earnt or purchased directly.
How much will credits cost?
We give you FREE credits when you sign up. We give you more FREE credits AFTER each broadcast. If you want more flexibility, then you can pay for additional credits and book more slots in one go and up to a month in advance. This is entirely optional. We plan to charge only a nominal fee for additional credits.
How many hours can I broadcast per day or per week?
To avoid saturation of a particular show type or genre, we will initially restrict you to at most 2 hours per day and 10 hours per week. We will regularly ask the 1Radio community to comment on this and decide if the policy should be changed.
How will you reward the best shows and most committed members?
Show websites will include voting tools to say how much you liked a show and enable listeners to provide other feedback. The best shows and most committed members will be rewarded with extra credits, personalised imaging and other incentives.
Will you penalise shows with few (or no) listeners or negative ratings?
Not at all. Instead, we'll work with you to promote the show, suggest ways to attract listeners and provide help if needed with presentation, content or any other production matters that seem relevant. We also provide you lots of innovative tools to help promote your shows to friends and colleagues.
What will you do if the presenter doesn't show up for his/her slot?
We want to attract committed and professional presenters and provide a reliable schedule for our listeners. By actually showing up for your slot and broadcasting, we give you more credits with which to broadcast. If a presenter continually fails to broadcast, they'll run out of credits. Simple as that!
How can someone listen in to my show?
Send 'em to our home page and tell 'em to click the LISTEN link. Or be really smart and send them an ecard with your show times, an automatic calendar reminder and a direct link to your show page.
How many concurrent listeners can the station support?
We are currently supporting 50 listeners. This will increase if we become aware that shows are attracting more than this!
What are the stream settings?
This information is provided when you register and book a slot.
Are you licensed to play commercial music?
Yes. We are licensed by PPL and MCPS-PRS in the UK to ensure that we remain legal and pay royalties as appropriate.
Will there be advertising?
We have absolutely no advertising on the site or in the on-air programming.
Do you syndicate shows?
Sorry, no. We do not syndicate any of our shows nor do we play out syndicated or pre-recorded shows that have been broadcast elsewhere.
Who owns 1Radio?
1Radio is owned by Vakart Limited - a small web design company in London, UK. Vakart creates radio station websites, content management systems and occasionally provides some free radio station templates.
